Week 2: Library Woes

We went into school today despite it being a public holiday as we had a lot of painting and cleaning of the room to do.
Around lunchtime the bars for the windows arrived (to ensure the library remained secure) and this became our project for the week as the bars were filty so needed cleaning.
They also needed painting in an anti-rust paint, as well as painting in two coats of white paint.

With the lack of heat the bars seemed to dry incredibly slowly and we also managed to muck up on the white paint so had to repaint over the white paint (I swear these bars are becoming the irritation of ours lives right now!)

By Wednesday the ceiling was finished, although our efforts made it look no different and still with patches of damp on it :(
However we began work on painting the floor in a bright red colour, which was far more rewarding as it felt like something was changing in the library at long last.

This is by far the weirdest project I've ever been on - whether it is because the kids are older, I don't know, but despite our best efforts they are not keen to engage in the library and the staff (except Julius) are confused and are not hugely willing to support any extra curricular projects to endorse the library's development.

We launched a competition for artwork in the library and the headteacher (who we really can't stand now) was under the impression that we should supervise the students whilst they were doing this...arrrrgh.
We're also under the impression that despite our best efforts with the fundi she instructed them to make all the furniture different to how we aksed and when we finally got through to her that we needed the smaller shelf, she expected us to pay more.  Crazy woman!

We had amazing news on Friday that finally our expenses were being processed and also that yes! the books were on the way!!!!! We are expecting the books in a weeks' time, but are hoping they arrive earlier.
With this good news we started planning the final week of fun.

Another day of painting the bars. It was pouring with rain so we had to move the bars under cover.
The weather is getting rather oppressive.  I might as well be in England with this rain :(

We anticipated to spend the whole day painting - even starting work on the furniture, but the fundis hadn't sanded so we couldn't start work on this.
We came home and relaxed instead.
