Waterfalls and Woodland

 18/08/2011

Today was Hannah's birthday and we took a day off the library to go on a trip to the Waterfalls.
We are anticipating a busy week ahead with distribution so felt pretty justified in this light relief.

After a lie-in we had a leisurely breakfast followed by one of William's friends meeting us in his tour van.
The waterfalls were ones you could swim in, however the weather was not remotely promising.  It looked like it was about to chuck it down with rain.

The driver/guide was great, but his assistant wasn't great at English and seemed inspired by pointing out food plantations en route "this is banana".
We also had the opportunity to experience the "real Africa" as they say "shake it, shake it".  I swear I have so many bruises from those roads.

The waterfalls were set in a beautiful serene forest, so unlike how you would paint Africa.
It made me realise how diverse Tanzania is.  I was really glad we visited it, as it was so pretty.  The waterfalls were definitely exciting for everyone else, but I'm glad I only paid 20000TSH as compared with the other waterfalls I've visited they did seem a bit pathetic.

It did, however make a change from Bukoba town centre.

We moved on to a pretty little beach where we had a heavy, but delicious lunch courtesy of the New Rose Cafe. We also saw monkeys.
I think we would have stayed longer had the weather not been so cloudy /almost rain and it was chilly.

More bumps - and I was really exhausted, trying not to fall asleep, as I'd knock myself out - before we stopped overlooking Lake Victoria.

It was a stunning view; such a shame about the weather.
We returned back home and had a delicious home cooked meal and cake.
