Day 7 - Jasper to Banff

Wow, I can't believe today is the final day of the 'Coho' tour, the tour I've been doing with Moose. I've seen some incredible scenery in Canada, and all the while I've been thinking of Lord of the Rings (yes I know it was filmed in New Zealand!). It's such dramatic scenery and my pictures only tell half the story. Today was no different. I had been slightly worried about the Columbia Icefields, having stopped by previously for a toilet break, and been absolutely frozen, but it was actually a bit warmer today thankfully, either that, or my extra layers did the trick. Some of the group had paid extra to go onto the Athabasca Glacier, which forms part of the Columbia Icefields, but it was quite pricey and I decided against it, given that we would have a perfectly good view from where we were if we did a hike (for free) instead.

One really horrifying fact about the glacier is that it is currently receding around 5 metres per year. There were really stark reminders of this when we saw signs as to where the glacier used to be in the early 2000s, and 1990s.

After the glacier we stopped at a beautiful little spot for a photo opportunity. We then carried on to the final leg of our journey before Banff to another pretty Canyon, Johnston Canyon, where again I was spoilt for choice in terms of photographs!

The day ended with a group dinner in Banff. I've got a day and a half to explore the pretty, tourist, town of Banff now before heading to the USA.
