Day 6 - Rampart Creek to Jasper

I didn't sleep particularly well last night. Aside from being a bit on the chilly side, someone from the adjacent room must have got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, and when they tried to find their way back in, struggled, making a scratching sort of noise. It freaked me out, thinking there was a bear outside...definite memories of a lioness being outside the tents in the Serengeti (which wasn't a lioness, but a guard dog). Still, this was the view we woke up to. Not a bad place to be staying.

It wasn't the best of weather today, and the Rockies looked even more intimidating in the mist.

Our first stop was the Athabasca Falls. The Athabasca river links the Columbia Icefield (which I will be visiting tomorrow) to the Arctic Ocean 6200Km away!

More driving again, before our other big stop today at a place called Maligne Canyon, so called because a man struggled to cross it with his horse, and therefore described it as evil. I found it far from that, and thought it to be a think of beauty especially with the mist. It had some sort of magical quality to it. I could honestly have taken photos for hours, because there were so many angles and different places to take beautiful pictures. God's creation is simply stunning.

Finally, on our drive back to Jasper we saw the first sighting of an animal of any kind. An elk!
